Well friends, here we go – week one of the Slimdown Showdown. Last week all of the contestants were at the La Cantera Resort in San Antonio for a week long Fit Camp, where we learned a ton about diet & nutrition and started working out together as a group. It was a great group of people from all over Texas with the same goal – to not only lose weight and get in shape, but to change our lives. The staff was great and getting to meet people who had been part of the Showdown in previous years and see the changes it had helped them to make was really inspiring.
My week at camp was interesting. I knew going in that it would bring up a bunch of stuff for me and I wasn’t wrong. I found myself feeling very defensive and angry the first couple of days (I’d like to formally apologize to anyone who got within 20 feet of me on Sunday afternoon or all day Monday… ), but by Tuesday morning I was getting in the swing of things. I think when we all got in the pool at 6am in 40 degree weather to do Aqua Zumba lead by a hyperactive chipmunk it was a sort of bonding experience. I don’t know about everyone else, but it was while I was dancing around in that freezing pool trying to see the instructor through the steam with everyone that I started to feel like we were a community.
They kept telling us that regardless of the outcome, we will all be winners if we stick to the program and keep moving forward and that’s exactly my plan. I’m gonna do this right in front of everyone, cause if I can do it ANYONE CAN! Expect a lot of pictures and videos over the next 12 weeks, and please leave me a comment and send your friends my way. Part of the winning score is based on comments, so keep ’em coming, and I’ll see you tomorrow
