Had another good day yesterday. Ate right, worked out… starting to feel like I’m back in the swing. I did 45 minutes on the elliptical. I think that’s the longest I have ever stayed on a cardio machine. I don’t know why that seems like a long time, but it does (did). I mean, I regularly go for walks that last twice that long but for some reason doing it on a machine is tough for me. Still, , for what it’s worth, it’s a personal best. I tend to go harder on the machines than I do walking, but it is always a struggle to keep going. I guess the upside of walking or biking is that you can’t just stop whenever you want to because you still have to ride all the way back home.
Speaking of riding, I am starting to shop for a bike. I still ride my cruiser around the neighborhood, but there are a lot of solid hills out in my neck of the woods and a single speed bike quickly becomes a challenge. I think I am going to buy a used Diamondback or Trek mountain bike and swap out tires for some road tires. I can pick one up for the money I want to spend and I think it’ll do what I need it to until I figure out whether or not I want to make cycling a regular part of my routine.
I tell you what… it’s shocking just how quickly you can get out of shape. I stopped doing anything but cardio about a month ago because of a back strain, and man can I tell the difference. When I stopped I was doing 120 squats with a 45lb kettle bell every workout. I did 40 on Monday and my inner quads and my gluts are SINGING! It feels like I am starting over on the strength training, which is kind of a drag, but what are ya gonna do? Move it or lose it, move it or lose it…..
Today I have begun to post some of my recipes on the site as well. I created a separate category for them, and you can find a drop down link to them in the main menu
